Deep Springs College – in practice – is like Philo (Philomathean Society – Google it, if unsure what it is) on steroids, without women :’( , and the boys supposedly become real cowboys (or some other such BS). Curious insight into this somewhat mysterious and bizarre institution of higher learning, isolated from the world, yet producing notable intellects and leaders. Apparently, this is supposed to be some sort of utopian vision of education which actually works, although I much doubt that adolescent pricks with high intellects, even when confronted by the brutality of survival in nature and the plebeian instincts of democracy, can anything but romanticize their experience after the fact. Similar to any fraternity, just that the hazing takes place over two years. What do we have to learn from this curious institution?
