Scalia: ‘We Are Devoting Too Many of Our Best Minds to’ Lawyering – Law Blog – WSJ. (h/t: Alex dS.)

There’s no doubt about it – Scalia’s right. Law and finance have swallowed many of the best minds in this country for a while now. Finance has crashed, and the numbers are readjusting downwards. Law is still reeling from the recession, but I’m not sure that the ABA is with the times, since it’s done nothing so far to cut down the number of accredited law schools. The legal profession is flush with talent, but has nowhere near enough jobs for everyone. Since we don’t produce much as lawyers (with few exceptions), this is indeed troublesome. I don’t know about inventing automobiles, but isn’t there some way for us to channel the linguistic and analytical skills of lawyers into something productive, but not necessarily law-related? Thoughts?
